Play Call Out for Raw Material

 

Raw Material is seeking new projects to add to their slate for development in 2027 with a view to produce in 2028.

We are looking for work from professional playwrights that shares Raw Material’s mission to develop, create and tour bold, accessible theatre that inspires, entertains and captivates audiences across borders. Raw Material is an award-winning, independent, producing company based in Glasgow, Scotland, founded by Margaret-Anne O’Donnell and Gillian Garrity and working with dramaturg Jackie Crichton.

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Raw Material is looking to add some projects to their development slate for 2028 and beyond. Raw Material plan to support one project from this call out with play development in early Summer 2027 and production for Spring / Summer 2028. This project and timeline will be subject to funding as Raw Material receives no core funding and are dependent on project to project funding.

 

  • The play should be full-length

  • The play can be written (but unproduced) or it can be an idea.

  • The play shouldn’t have been shared with Raw Material in the past: if we have read your script or attended a sharing please send us a different idea.

  • We are open to plays, plays with songs and musicals.

  • The playwright must be based in Scotland or Scottish.

  • The playwright should have had at least two plays professionally produced (this can include plays produced at A Play, A Pie and A Pint)

  • aw Material are particularly excited to work with playwrights that we have not worked with before.

  • Raw Material are advocates for access and diversity within the theatre sector and we welcome applications from playwrights whose work has not traditionally been seen on Scotland’s stages.

Call-out goes live Thu 10th September 2026

Deadline for responses 11pm, Sun 4th October 2026

Applicants notified of first stage outcome by Mon 26th October 2026

Shortlist meetings w/c Mon 9th November 2026

Project selected by Fri 20th November 2026
